Serving as an important resource for the arts, education and business, The Living Arts Centre is a not-for-profit corporation with for profit elements.  The Centre’s mission statement is ‘Arts for Life’. Featuring over 225,000 square feet of multiple performance venues, studio spaces and exhibition display areas its three theatres host a range of arts, cultural and entertainment events.   The Centre’s seven craft/arts studios house professional Resident Artists and also feature dozens of educational classes for all ages.  The meeting and conference rooms are utilized by community organizations and businesses for a variety of events, from church services, to luncheon meetings, to international video conference business meetings.  These are complemented by a restaurant and catering services.  The Living Arts Centre proudly serves as the performance outlet for many Mississauga arts organizations and community cultural groups.

Ontario Dances seeks to have more live dance performances in Ontario communities and more people engaged, interested and invested in dance at a local level in our province.  This program aims to increase the range and diversity of dance available to communities in Ontario outside of Toronto.  From dance classes and workshops to artists in residence to the presentation of dance work from leading Ontario-based professional choreographers, Ontario Dances  will offer the public and professionals alike the opportunity to participate in dance at all levels.

THE ROLE OF THE DANCE ANIMATOR

The role of the Centre for the Arts’ dance Animator is to work with Centre Director of Performing Arts, to increase the public’s awareness and appreciation of dance through arts education/learning programs.  These programs must be tailor made to each local community and relevant within the context of existing events in the community and to the dance community.

The Dance Animator will work within the Performing Arts department and assist with the promotion and execution of the Centre’s 2014-15 Season and planning of the 2015-16 Season.

Duties:

To assist with the planning, promotion and execution of the Centre’s Ontario Dances community outreach events; develop a communications plan and promotional strategies for the Centre’s dance season; research dance companies being presented at the Centre; identify opportunities in the community to promote the centre’s dance presentations; be present at all Centre’s dance presentations including Family Day event and community outreach events; attend professional development opportunities provided by the Ontario Arts Council; develop and maintain a dance distribution/communications list (local dance schools, businesses etc.) and maintain communication with them about the centre’s dance program (performances and workshops); write a report summarizing the 2014-15 dance outreach and Dance Animator activities. The Dance Animator is expected to work approximately 12 hours per week between November 15, 2014 and May 30, 2015. (8 hours at Living Arts Centre and 4 hours off-site)

The Dance Animator must be present at the following 2014-15 dance performances and outreach events presented by the Living Arts Centre;

2014 -15 Dance Outreach Events:

  1. Workshops with Dreamwalker Dance Company,

January 13 and 20, 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. at the Square One Older Adult Centre and,

6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Port Credit

Two other 2.5 hr workshops to be confirmed 

2104-2015 Dance Presentations:

  1. On-site Workshop/Family Day Rehearsal   at Living Arts Centre, February 7th or 8th,2015,  working with 3 community groups, (working with Dreamwalker Dance Company)
  2. Family Day, February 16, 2015, Direct and manage the three workshop presentations for a performance on Family Day, between 12 noon and 4 p.m.
  3. Family Day Open Workshop and mini performance, February 16, 2105;

-work with artist Gimme One Riddim to coordinate an introductory workshop with audience participation

Family Day Community workshops;

-3 workshops in RBC theatre, Family Day, 30 minutes each.

  • The State Ballet Theatre of Russia, Nutcracker, December 7, 2014
  • The State Ballet Theatre of Russia, Swan Lake, February 5, 2015
  • Shaping Sound Dance Reimagined, February 7, 2015
  • Nueva Danza Flamenca, April 25, 8 p.m.

Contract includes duties noted above and all local travel expenses etc. When you are required to travel outside of the Peel Region (eg. For professional development, performances) reimbursement will be made separately through the Ontario Arts Council.

The Dance Animator is required to attend the annual professional development program of Ontario Dances.
