Key activities:
Under the supervision of the NAC Orchestra General Manager, the Orchestra Manager is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the musicians and operations of the Orchestra, including
scheduling and upholding the requirements of the collective agreement. The Orchestra Manager plays a leading role in organizing and implementing programs and activities including concerts, national and
international tours, recordings and broadcasts, and an area of focus will be on furthering NACO’s digital strategy.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising orchestra operations team (consisting of Personnel Manager, Orchestra Operations Manager) to effectively manage and communicate with a 60-member orchestra, including:
    - Concert production;
    - Personnel management;
    - Contract negotiation;
    - Scheduling.
  • Working with the General Manager on implementation of activities and projects to further the NACO’s and the NAC’s strategic goals, including increasing the digital reach and output of the Orchestra;
  • Upholding the requirements of the collective agreement;
  • Managing the logistical planning and implementation of NACO tours, recordings and other projects: overseeing the efficient execution of all plans, including developing strategy, schedules and budgets in consultation with the General Manager;
  • Accompanying the Orchestra on all tours and run outs to ensure all plans are appropriately expedited and problems are solved and documented for future reference;
  • Participating on the NAC team for negotiations of the collective bargaining agreement with the musicians’ union;
  • Collaborating with the Music Department and the Production Department to plan the orchestra season schedule;
  • Working collaboratively with the musicians, Orchestra administration internal and external stakeholders to help lead conversation and action around issues of equity, diversity and inclusion in recruitment (auditions), partnerships, community engagement, and other areas.
Requirements: 
  • University degree in Music or a related field;
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in performing arts management; 
  • Extensive working knowledge of the operations of symphony orchestras or other performing arts organizations, including collective agreements, labour relations, financial planning and budgets;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to quickly and satisfactorily resolve problems and conflicts;
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinker that enjoys fast-paced, dynamic environments;
  • Willingness to travel as well as work evenings and weekends;
  • Priority will be given to candidates with strong proficiency in both official languages (verbal and written).
Salary: 
$80,000 - $100,000 (position with benefits and pension plan)
Term: 

Full-Time continuing. 

Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week. Flexible schedule required, which can include weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
