The Theatre Tech Assistant provides technical support in the operation of the McIntyre Performing Arts Centre including responsibilities related to the theatres lighting, sound and rigging equipment. The Theatre Tech Assistant is responsible for assisting the Theatre Technicians in staging a diverse spectrum of events in the McIntyre Performing Arts Centre including dance competitions, recitals, convocations, musical concerts, theatre performances and speaker events.
This position is required on a part-time on-call basis. Hours of work fluctuate and will include evening and weekend work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the theatre as directed.
- Prepare the McIntyre Performing Arts Centre for client use.
- Assist the Theatre Technicians in implementation of all technical requirements.
- Operate the theatres lighting, sound and other systems as required.
- Undertake special projects or assignments at the requests of the Theatre Technicians.
- Working as part of the technical team; following instructions from Crew Leads and Technical Directors to perform required tasks efficiently and mindfully.
The successful applicant must have:
- Minimum of two (2) years of industry or equivalent experience working in a similar role or capacity for a theatre or performing arts centre
- Strong customer service skills with demonstrated genuine client focused service delivery
- Excellent communication skills
- A high level of attention to detail
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Over one (1) year related experience in a performing arts theatre environment
- College certificate or diploma in technical theatre an asset
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- A high level of attention to detail
