Sylvia Whitaker, founding member and driving force of the Cornwall Concert Series for almost 30 years, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 after a brief illness.
A lifetime educator, Sylvia was involved with a number of child focused charities such as Save the Children, Child Haven, and Ray-John (a group that works to alleviate child poverty in Haiti) and worked tirelessly with Carefor to establish the Cornwall Hospice. She was recognized with the Queen’s Jubilee Medal 2003 for her outstanding contributions and Cornwall’s Citizen of the Year in 2009.
