Ontario Presents, CAPACOA & IPAA Receive Trillium Seed Grant

At Ontario Contact, Peterborough MPP Jeff Leal met with members of the CAPACOA, IPAA and Ontario Presents to formally congratulate the three partners on receiving a $75,000 Seed grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

On Saturday, local MPP Jeff Leal met with members of CAPACOA, the Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance (IPAA) and Ontario Presents ahead of Ontario Contact’s afternoon showcase at Market Hall.

MPP Leal also had the opportunity to formally congratulate the three partners on receiving a $75,000 Seed grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation earlier this year to coordinate a new initiative that builds new levels of awareness between Indigenous arts leaders and performing arts presenters that live and work on Indigenous lands across Ontario.

“I am pleased that our government through the Ontario Trillium Foundation partnered with the Canadian Arts Presenting Association on this project to help build relationships between Indigenous artists and arts presenters. This is an important project that will have a positive impact on our community as a whole,” said Jeff Leal, MPP for Peterborough.

Funds from the Ontario Trillium Foundation grant are being used to hire special project staff to build relationships between Indigenous communities, artists and leaders and mainstream presenters and to help deliver this pilot program in different Ontario communities, including Peterborough. The program is designed to build new levels of awareness and to find the best way to support Indigenous performing artists.

“Enhanced by international research and programs with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia, this pilot initiative is engaging Indigenous and non-Indigenous Advisors to ensure our program is responsive to the realities of presenting Indigenous performance in what is now called Ontario,” said Cole Alvis, Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance.

CAPACOA serves the performing arts touring and presenting community through its commitment to integrate the performing arts into the lives of all Canadians. CAPACOA takes initiative in providing leadership, knowledge, communications, skills development and advocacy on behalf of its members and within the arts presenting community.

An agency of the Government of Ontario, OTF is one of Canada’s largest granting foundations. With a budget of over $136 million, it awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities. For more information, please visit: www.otf.ca
