The Ontario Ministry of Labour has released the Temporary Performance/Event Structures Safety Guideline for the Live Performance Industry in Ontario. This guideline has been prepared by the Health and Safety Advisory Committee for Live Performance to help workplace parties understand some of their obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and its regulations related to the design, erection, use, dismantling and maintenance of temporary performance/event structures that are used either indoors or outdoors
The new guideline covers:
- Design
- Responsibilities
- Documentation
- Preparation and planning
- Construction
- Managing the completed structure
- Dismantling and load-out
- Alterations and change of use
The guideline will help you and your team:
- Understand your responsibilities re. design and installation
- Understand limitations of outdoor-venue structures
- Determine when a structure is being subjected to conditions for which it was not designed (wind, rain, etc.)
