Job Description: 

The National Arts Centre French Theatre is seeking a new Associate Director for its children’s and youth programming.

The Associate Director will work closely with French Theatre’s Artistic Director, Mani Soleymanlou, to define and develop the artistic vision for the NAC’s programming and projects for children and young people, and to create a program of shows and activities that reflects that vision.

They will bring to French Theatre and the NAC an in-depth knowledge of theatre for young audiences, and will maintain close ties with French-language artists and theatres in Quebec, across Canada and abroad.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication and teamwork skills in order to build solid relationships with numerous colleagues, partners and associates, as well as with children, families and various stakeholders in the school environment.

  • Support the National Arts Centre’s strategic planning objectives and help determine French Theatre’s key orientations;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the relevant audiences in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, i.e., families, schools and institutions, while keeping in mind the NAC’s national mandate;
  • Act as a liaison between French Theatre and artists and companies that specialize in or have a strong interest in creating works for young audiences;
  • Follow visiting artists and companies as they carry out their projects and welcome them to French Theatre, which involves attending performances for all types of audiences and participating in artistic mediation activities;
  • Develop the partnerships needed to roll out and implement the programming;
  • Participate in festivals, conferences, committees and other activities within the local and national theatre and arts communities;
  • Contribute to the development of the brand image of French Theatre’s season campaigns and related communications tools.
Requirements: 
  • Minimum of 5 experience as an artist, programmer or facilitator, and a proven track record of leadership in the arts for young audiences, or equivalent experience;
  • Ability to play a leadership role within an organization, in the national arts community and in the National Capital Region;
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to working with theatre artists and companies and those in other artistic disciplines;
  • Experience in arts mediation and an interest in linking the arts and education;
  • Willingness to travel within Canada and internationally.

If not already a resident of the Ottawa-Gatineau region, the successful candidate must be willing to spend time in Ottawa regularly throughout the year.

Salary: 
$85,500.00 - $106,800.00/Year
Term: 

Full-time, 4 year mandate with possibility of renewal
