Bringing Theatre & Dance Closer to Home

Theatre Connects is an initiative that seeks to have more theatre and dance performances in Ontario communities and more people engaged, interested and invested in theatre and dance at a local level.

With funding support from the Ontario Arts Council (OAC), this project aims to increase the range and diversity of theatre and dance available to communities in Ontario outside of the city of Toronto. Through presenter curatorial development, artist fee subsidies, and tour coordination, Theatre Connects supports the presentation of a number of theatre and dance pieces each year, as well as community engagement activities, at participating venues across the province. All artists supported by the program are Ontario-based, with a focus on contemporary, independent work.

Participants in this program were selected by an independent consultant, with a focus on long-term investment in audience development for contemporary theatre and dance in these communities. The current program participants are:
