Community Engagement in Dance - workshop overview

On February 19th and 20th, Ontario Presents organized Community Engagement in Dance workshop at the Theatre Centre in Toronto. Hosted by the Ontario Arts Council as part of Ontario Dances program, a two day workshop provided presenters, programmers, venue managers and other professionals with the opportunity to discuss community engagement in dance.

Led by Gail Ferrin, participants had a chance to share ideas and practice, hear the artists’ perspective, get creative, think through some plans, timescales and rationales. The workshop created an opportunity to hear about successful community engagement projects and programmes from the UK, Canada and beyond. It stimulated debate and developed more community engagement thinking, strategy and inspiration.

Participant, Sara Palmieri, Centre for the Arts – Brock University, presents a fictional community engagement dance project and pitches the project to the rest of the group.
