Job Description: 

The Centre in the Square is currently looking for a Director of Finance and Administration to join their dynamic organization.Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Finance and Administration is an integral member of the senior management team and is responsible for financial management, human resources, information technology, legal, corporate records and facility asset management.

About CITS

CITS is a not-for-profit registered charitable arts organization with the mission to “create memorable experiences.”  It is dedicated to promoting performing arts that entertain, inspire, engage and create memorable experiences for the region.  The Centre welcomes approximately 190,000 visitors each year across a range of events including dance, comedy, musicals, theatre and music from classical to rock.  The Centre is located in Kitchener, Ontario and governed by a 14-member board and a staff of 160 full-time and part time employees.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide high level input and expert advice to the CEO on finances and financial forecasts, strategy, staff management, earned revenue opportunities and systems and processes
  • Effectively communicate and present critical financial and operational matters to the CEO and Board
  • Analyze cash flows, expenses and revenues making recommendations regarding internal financial controls and resource allocation.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators, and provide financial reports and analyses to the CEO and Board in an accurate and timely manner
  • Provide advice to the CEO on recruitment, hiring and compensation, benefits administration and professional training and development (including new employee orientation), retention strategies, regulatory oversight and legal compliance
  • Clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements
  • Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process
  • Oversee and lead the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CEO
  • Implement a robust contracts management, corporate records and financial management/reporting system
  • Oversee the operations of Human Resources and IT
  • Effectively manage a team and participate in recruiting practices
Requirements: 

Skills and Qualifications

  • University degree, ideally with an MBA, CPA, CGA, or CA membership
  • 7-10 years of overall professional experience; ideally 6+ years of broad financial and operations management experience
  • Overall accountability for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and audit coordination
  • Ideally has experience overseeing a human resources function
  • Ability to translate financial concepts and collaborate with colleagues who do not have a finance background
  • Successful track record with grants management
  • Technology savvy with experience in selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting and reporting software
  • Commitment to training programs that maximize individual and organization goals, including best practices in human resources activities
  • A successful track record in setting priorities, keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to multi-task and wear many hats in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in the not for profit sector is an asset
