The Digital Experiences + Design team is responsible for the complete design and development lifecycle of the NAC’s web-based products and services, audio/video broadcast studio, and digital media installations, including the Kipnes Lantern. We have grown into a strong team, with expertise in user experience design, content strategy, creative development, environmental design, and audio and video production. As our  projects grow in scale, so must our team.

We are looking for an intermediate-level Production Designer to work alongside our designers and internal stakeholders to support the creation of unparalleled, quality design solutions for the artistic programming
streams and internal departments. You will champion the brand guidelines and create digital and physical media for distribution across the widest variety of platforms including but not limited to: social media,
livestreams, video, digital screens, web, print, online publications, signage, and exhibits.

Your design production skills will be at the highest standards to deliver valuable, exceptional, and accessible experiences for our in-person and online audiences. You will be embedded in a wide range of projects to support the team through all the phases of design creation: planning, research, discovery, content development, refinement, publishing, and learning. The ideal candidate enjoys playing a supportive role in content development with their main focus and commitment to completing planning, research, refinement and publishing tasks.

Within the Digital Experiences + Design team, you will be:
Production Design

  • Collaborating alongside designers and internal stakeholders to provide design production support to develop creative solutions focused on the user experience for owned and earned media. Internal stakeholders include but are not limited to: the six artistic disciplines, Communications, NAC Foundation, 1 Elgin Restaurant, Food and Beverage, Human Resources, Visitor Experience, and Public Spaces.
  • Working with designers to develop media for print and digital publishing including but not limited to digital images, photographs, videos, livestream graphics, social media assets, digital screen, or poster creative, motion graphics, presentations, print publications, accessible pdfs, infographics, visual identities, exhibits, environmental graphics, and signage.
  • Assisting the designers with planning, research, refinement, and publishing tasks required to create aesthetically pleasing layouts that clearly communicate key messages and deliver valuable, exceptional, and accessible experiences to our audiences.
  • Assisting the Creative Design Manager with content creation, production workflows, and troubleshooting activities required to maintain content across three dozen digital displays on-site.
  • Coordinating and assisting with video/photo shoots, production, and edits.
  • Creating and remediating accessible documents that will be published online.
  • Maintaining consistency and order within established file management and project management systems.
  • Assisting in identifying design requirements, coordinating content, and confirming media specifications for new projects.
  • Establishing design production standards across the various digital and physical media platforms.
  • Assisting with quality assurance and quality control of media.
  • Undertaking design research tasks to support creative development and innovation (e.g., image searches, software testing).
  • Contributing to the brand guidelines, process documentation, and project retrospectives.

Accessibility standards

  • Ensuring accessibility and brand guidelines are followed across all digital and physical media.
  • Applying PDF Universally Accessibility standards and remediation to PDFs for online publishing and applying English and French transcriptions to videos.
Requirements: 
  • Successful completion of a graphic design, visual communication design program from post-secondary education, or comparable work experience;
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent production design experience; a specialization in videography is an asset.
  • Fluently bilingual in both official languages, written and spoken;
  • Strong design sensibility with demonstrated experience working to brand guidelines.
  • Skilled collaborator with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Experience with layout, typography, photo retouching, video editing, and colour theory.
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite including: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Premiere, Media Encoder, and After Effects.
  • Experience producing static graphics for the web, social media, and digital screens; skills and experience producing motion graphics is an asset.
  • Experience preparing files to digital specifications across a variety of media, including but not limited to: social media, livestreams, video, digital screens, web and presentations.
  • Experience applying PDF Universally Accessibility standards and remediation to documents that will be published online.
  • Experience preparing files that follow print specifications across a variety of physical media, including but not limited to: publications, ads, posters, stationary, swag, menus, signage, and exhibits.
  • Experience sourcing suppliers for physical media.
  • Experience using content management systems and collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams and Asana.
  • Familiarity with photography and video production equipment (DLSR, video cameras), lighting, sound, post-production is an asset.
  • Experience managing fast-paced assignments requiring impeccable production skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate emerging media and communication trends and technologies and remain current with design processes and content creation tools.
